Year-round home renovations: Renovate through the seasons!

Any house needs constant upkeep and maintenance. It is good “ownership” practice to perform home renovations in an on-going basis rather than wait until something breaks before we call our local professional handyman. Weatherproofing, leak repairs or replacing the damaged trim on the house exterior are only some examples of what areas to prioritize each season. 

During the Spring rainy season it is time to clean up and repair gutter and downspouts. Finally, we suggest replacing any rotted wood: trim boards, exterior moldings, columns or siding shingles which will reduce pest control issues and prevent future damage to your home.

Fall is very much like Spring: the brisk cool nights are a reminder of a more severe weather down the road. How efficient is your existing weather insulation? Increasing the R-Factor in the attic or walls is always a good idea. Sealing door and window drafts;  keeping adequate venting In your bathroom minimizes the build-up of mildew and moisture problems.

Finally, Winter is perfect for these indoor projects waiting for your attention: Checking for leaks on traps and drains, under the kitchen sink, tub or vanity or other similar plumbing repairs. Replace faulty wall switches, light fixtures, electrical outlets, adding a missing GFCI in your bathroom or kitchen can be fun and exciting. Other winter targets are painting a new room replacing the old plaster by drywall or finally getting rid of the outdated paneling.
